Abstract
In this study, we examine students perceptions of key elements of the systems analysis and design discipline and compare those perceptions to employers perceptions and note areas of consistency as well as inconsistency. Research in this area is crucial because students will be much more effective in preparing for careers that relate to the systems analysis and design area if they have an understanding of what is most important in the marketplace. Finally, if academicians can sell the key elements of the systems analysis and design area to students, such students will likely be more motivated in learning about the key elements.
